Join us for a two-part smoke firing workshop in Manchester where you’ll create your own beautifully finished decorative ceramic pieces from start to finish. This workshop is open to all abilities and is an ideal, relaxing way to finish off your weekend.
This workshop is open to all abilities. Whether you’re completely new or have some experience, you’ll be guided through each stage in a relaxed and supportive way. Perfect Father's Day treat for the crafty, hands-on dads out there!
What to expect:
  • In the first session, you’ll learn hand-building techniques including coiling, pinching, carving, and surface refinement.
  • You’ll also be introduced to burnishing, a process that gives your work a soft sheen and prepares it for the firing.
  • Your pieces will then be left to dry and bisque fired, ready for the second session.
  • In the second session, you’ll take part in an exciting outdoor smoke firing, where natural materials and controlled combustion makes each surface unique.
  • Tea and coffee provided, and a veggie lunch will be provided on the second session so we can eat together while we watch the smoke firing!
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own finished ceramic pieces and the experience of taking them through a full creative process in a calm and enjoyable setting.
What you'll get
  • Decorative ceramic pieces that will be smoked fired and polished on the second session, ready to take home with you!
  • Note: pieces are not food safe as they are just bisque fired.

Hi, I’m Katie, a passionate ceramic artist with a BA Hons in Three-Dimensional Design from Manchester School of Art. My journey with clay began as a student, but over the years since (10 years!!), it has grown into a career filled with exploration, creativity, and teaching.
I currently teach in several ceramics studios around Manchester, but one of my favorite spaces is Good Yard Studio—a lovely creative hub filled with talented makers and inspiring events. It’s a space that perfectly reflects the collaborative and experimental spirit I love about working with clay. This is where my workshops and lessons will be hosted.
Over the years, teaching has become an integral part of my practice. Designing and delivering projects for students with varying abilities and goals has taught me how to adapt and bring out the best in everyone.
For me, clay is a limitless medium for self-expression and growth, and I’m thrilled to share my passion with others. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your skills, I’m here to help you create something beautiful and meaningful.
Let’s get started and make something amazing together!
