Zero Waste Sewing Course: Shirt or Jacket Making

What you'll do
In this three-week sewing course in Bristol, we will use a technique and instructions developed by Birgita Helmersson. Zero waste uses a whole piece of fabric so that nothing is wasted. This is a unique "paperless" method, meaning you can eliminate both fabric and paper waste from your sewing projects.We will make a boxy shirt/jacket for your first zero waste project. There is the opportunity to learn more about the technique and find out about other patterns and books that can be purchased from Birgita Helmersson.Experience of sewing and using a sewing machine is required for this course, plus the purchase of fabric and thread which can be matching or a contrast. Fabric and links to recommended suppliers will be sent in a confirmation email. You can also bring your machine or hire one of ours for an additional £10 if you don't have your own.Once booked, you will receive a confirmation email explaining pattern sizes and fabric to purchase accordingly. If you feel you need support before purchasing the fabric, please contact me, and we can chat through the options.

What to bring
You can bring your own sewing machine or hire one of ours for an additional £10. Please bring purchased fabric as outlined in the confirmation email. Please wash and iron fabric prior to the course due to shrinkage.

Hello there! I'm a passionate lover of all things art and design, dedicated to bringing beauty and creativity into everyday life. My journey as a maker and crafter involves a variety of techniques, including sewing, quilting, and crochet. In my work, I prioritise sustainability and mindful crafting and promote these in classes that I run, where possible I like to use carefully select vintage and end-of-roll natural textiles and trimmings, giving these materials a new life and purpose. I have been teaching sewing and crocheting for many years and love to promote and allow people's own style creativity shine.
