3.5 hours Class size 1 to 8     label £49

Learn flawless painting and expert masking tape techniques with this gift box masterclass.

In this very special upcycling workshop you will design and paint a wooden box in a stunning geometric pattern. The box can then be used to make a very special gift for a loved one, creating a pampering box, a gin kit or filling it with toys for a child’s present.

During this course, you will learn how to get a perfect, smooth-painted finish on your future furniture projects. You’ll also find out what products to use and how to make intricate geometric patterns using masking tape, without the paint bleeding through and ruining your design. I will be showing you exactly what I do to create striking geometric patterns on my statement pieces of furniture.

The course is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to tackle bigger furniture projects at home and you’ll leave knowing exactly what equipment to use to ensure a perfect painted finish every time. I will also discuss the sourcing of suitable furniture, the prep you must do to achieve a professional look and what finishes can be used to ensure it is long-lasting.

All abilities are welcome. It can get messy so please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. All other materials will be provided, including your own information pack to take home, detailing all that is covered in the workshop.

I am Hannah Wiles, a Manchester-based fine artist and furniture restorer. Having completed an arts degree and worked in the industry for a few years, I decided my mission would be to use my design skills and love of last century furniture to create stunning contemporary pieces. I saw amazingly designed materials made of beautiful materials being discarded as old fashioned and I knew in my bones we could do better and that we deserved better.

I determined only to use environmentally sound products in my making and teaching process. It is my absolute belief that our homes should mirror the beauty of the natural world, without damaging it – this is how Tread Softly was born. Creating gorgeous sustainable furniture that ‘doesn’t cost the earth’.

In line with this, I run furniture upcycling workshops and would love you to join me to create something wonderful. I am a qualified teacher and tutor and have been running workshops for several years.
