Woodcarving Course: Afternoon and Evening

Learn woodcarving with this 12 week course (2hrs per session) in Greenwich.

12 x 2 hours Class size 1 to 2     label £288

In this 12 week woodcarving course you will be given a beginners project to suit your skill level and then progress to another, more complex project.
The tutor will cover relief carving, chip carving, and carving-in-the-round.
You will be shown how to sharpen tools, learn which timbers are best for carving, and how to finish a piece using an oil and/or wax.
Other areas covered will be wood identification, maquette making, and woodcarvers of note from the 16th century to the present.
Wood for the first project will be supplied free of charge and all carving tools will be made available to you from the tutors large collection.
Please do not buy a cheap set of carving tools, they will be poor quality and are not recommended. The tutor will discuss which tools are worth buying and where to get them from if you want to continue carving in the future.

Hello, I'm Roli, founder of The Hall of Bright Carvings.

I started my journey in woodcarving with a short carpentry and joinery course, I then went on to take a longer furniture craft course. During both courses, I became more interested in carving detail into the pieces than the act of constructing them. This led to me taking a three year Diploma in "Ornamental and Historical Woodcarving" at the City and Guilds of London Art School.

Since 2005, I have taught woodcarving at adult education colleges and from my studio in Greenwich, as well as accepting commissions from individuals and churches. Come along and discover this special craft and spark a new passion!
