Come along to the Stitch and Make Studio in the heart of Northampton's boot and shoe quarter. You'll spend the day in this inspiring and uplifting professional design studio where you'll be shown how to cut a pattern and sew your very own weekend bag. Vintage and old domestic textiles- such as tablecloths, tea towels and curtains can all be used for this project. When we're all being mindful about fabric repurposing and recycling, even old jeans and needlepoint pictures can be used. If you're unsure please bring along any fabrics and trims in your stash and we can advise you.
On the day you will be given full instructions with demonstrations. To save time and help you get started a calico backing fabric will be given out. You will be given guidance and support on which types of fabrics work well together, with consideration to scale, weight and colour, we'll talk you through how to build up the look of your bag.
This is a full on sewing class, so please make sure that you can sew confidently- at least to thread a needle, wind a bobbin and be able to sew independently. please also bring your own kit or sewing machine if you want to although machines are provided.
