We booked this for a hen do of 13 people and it was utterly brilliant! It was the perfect balance of 'organised fun', we were able to learn a lot but also chat with each other plus of course we got to take home a delicious smelling candle. Sari was a wonderful host, so knowledgable and friendly, it felt like she was part of our group!
Would definitely recommend booking this if you're considering it!

Sari was an exceptional host and created such a memorable evening for my best friend’s 30th birthday. She and Sue went above and beyond to accommodate us, and Sari is so knowledgeable that you’re guaranteed to walk away with a new skill (and a gorgeous smelling candle of course!)
I’d recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a wholesome activity, and in my opinion, a perfect warm up for a GNO (yes our candles came to the club with us!!)

A Glowing Evening at Somerset House!
Had a fantastic evening candle making with Ambustum at Somerset House! It was the perfect spot for a creative night out.
The vibe at the venue was laid back and you really felt like you were in a creative hub. It had a lovely atmosphere. The class permitted BYOB and there was onsite bar access too which made it feel like a proper social event rather than just a workshop.
The materials provided were high quality. The candle wax and the scent selection were top-tier, resulting in a candle that smells expensive and has a long burn time.
Our instructor was incredibly knowledgeable. She didn't just walk us through the steps; she gave us genuinely useful advice for DIY candle making at home and candle care/maintenance, which I really appreciated.
The timings were spot on and everything flowed without feeling rushed.
The only tiny downside was that I would have loved to melt the wax myself to get the full "chemistry" experience, but looking at the classroom setup, it was clear why that wasn't possible for safety/logistics.
Overall, a brilliant experience. If you’re looking for a fun, crafty evening in a cool location, this is it! I have certainly been inspired to try this at home.

A fabulous way to spend a couple of hours. I went alone which was fine as the seating is around a large table, it was mainly friends groups, everyone there was friendly and motivated.
The meeting point is inside Somerset house off Waterloo bridge outside Poon the Asian restaurant. We were met and taken down to the class room which was ideal for teaching us 12. Sari the teacher was a delight and so enthusiastic and informative, I really liked her. The basics of candle making were clearly explained and everyone left with a wonderful scented candle. It was such a good experience I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who likes being creative, likes perfumes, orjust wants to try something new.

Great session with a fantastic host. Learned a lot and it was super interactive. Very friendly and open - it was really easy to ask questions. Great group size and the Somerset House venue was beautiful - it’s actually in a room down beneath the main building so tricky to find your way in and out but they’re super helpful in taking you where you need to be. We made two candles each, which I definitely recommend as the fragrance options are all really lovely and hard to choose between, plus you can combine options, giving you even more choice! The class was around an hour which felt about right although it goes very quickly! Had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend as a solo or group activity

This class was a good intro to candle making and we left with some lovely smelling candles. It was a cool venue in the Somerset house basement, which was also quite central. The instructor was friendly and very knowledgeable. The process itself was quite simple, but the instructor shared a lot of info around different kinds of waxes, fragrances, and tips for each step. The fragrance options were all wonderful smelling. We have burned the candles at home now and they are great quality and smell terrific. We went as a couple, but it was a mix of friends, parents and teens, etc. as well.
It’s BYOB, would recommend bringing a beverage of your choice if you want one.
