ViViVi Studio is located by the beautiful seaside in Leith, Edinburgh. Founded by Japanese ceramicist Akiko Matsuda, the studio embarks on its journey in November 2024.
Akiko studied ceramics at Tama Art University in Tokyo. In 2017, she established her first pottery studio, Akopottery, in Tokyo, following a growing number of commissions from musicians, designers, and hair salons. She also ran weekend pottery classes, sharing her craft with a diverse community.
In 2018, Akiko moved to London after being offered a position as a ceramic resident artist and teacher at a London-based ceramics studio. During her time there, she became deeply immersed in ceramic education, leading workshops and courses at various studios while continuing to create and exhibit her own work. She hosted pop-up workshops with esteemed clients such as Soho House and Pantechnicon in London. Her professional journey has also been featured in Quartz magazine. Being part of her students' achievements and witnessing their individual creative processes became a major source of inspiration for her.
In 2023, she relocated to Scotland, setting up a studio in the Angus region to explore wood kilns and experiment with local materials.
Now, with over six years of experience, Akiko is opening her new creative space, ViViVi Studio, in Leith, Edinburgh, in November 2024.
The name “ViViVi” comes from a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of an electric shock—symbolizing moments of inspiration, discovery, and imagination.
ViViVi Studio creates homeware designed to bring joy and a touch of spice to everyday life. We strive to inspire “ViViVi” moments—those sparks of creativity and delight—in your daily routine. Through our workshops, we aim to unlock creativity and foster hands-on experiences for all.
