Make a bespoke, one-of-a-kind ring using hands tools, gentle heat and wax carvings. Whether you want to spruce up your jewellery box or jump into a new hobby, this class is the place to do it!
Guiding you through this exciting and creative journey through wax carving is your friendly and talented teacher Shirley. She will share all her best tips and tricks, take you through some demonstrations, and give you advice on ring design ideas.
Not only will you learn some wax carving methods, but you're also gaining insight into the commercial method for producing jewellery. This affordable and forgiving way to design DIY jewellery is ideal for any crafter to have in their repertoire and is particularly ideal for beginners.
By the end of this jewellery making workshop, you will have carved your wax master for your ring. We will then send away the wax masters to a Scottish company to cast the rings in solid silver. The rings will then be sent back to the studio, where they will be lovingly hand-finished and posted to your home.
Your completed ring may take between two to three weeks to arrive at your door, but once you have your handmade ring you can wear it with pride.
Please note:
  • In the unlikely event we do not have enough attendees, this class may be cancelled. If this happens, you will be fully refunded and notified a day before.

Shirley Lowe came to jewellery later in life, having been a successful tattooist and body piercer for more than 20 years. She has travelled the world and stayed in many places but has always come back to Scotland. Inspired by bodies of water, the environment weighs heavy on her mind and this is reflected in her work as she uses reclaimed, repurposed, or recycled materials. The jewellery industry tends to rely on natural resources most commonly retrieved from the earth, and Shirley has set out to produce ethically sound and aesthetically pleasing pieces using traditional techniques while reducing or replacing any toxic or harmful chemicals used in the process.
