Pottery Wheel Throwing Workshop

Get to grips with the potter's wheel at this pottery class.

2 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests       £60

At our Studio we only have 2 Pottery Wheels, so dates can be booked on request, if you have more than 2 people, we can do a taster session which includes hand-building and pottery wheel throwing so you can take it in turns. We are very flexible with dates, so get in touch to book this Workshop.
Location: Fire Nest Studio, Rushey Ford Business Park, Kempston West End, MK43 8RU
In our Pottery Wheel Throwing workshop, you will embark on a creative journey to learn the art of working with clay on a spinning wheel. Discover how to craft beautiful and functional pieces such as pots, bowls and mugs with your own two hands.
Feel nervous about trying something new? Do not worry! We will guide you through each step with patience and encouragement, making sure you feel confident and inspired throughout the workshop. You'll be amazed at what you can create!
During the class, you'll have the chance to get hands-on with the clay, learning how to shape and mould it into unique pieces. The therapeutic experience of wheel throwing will leave you feeling relaxed and fulfilled, eager to explore your creativity further.
At the end of the workshop, you'll proudly take home your own handmade pottery creations, a tangible reminder of the skills you've acquired and the memories you've made.
What's included:
  • 2 hour Workshop on the Wheel
  • All firings included, you can choose your glazes for your pieces
  • Items will be ready approx 6-8 weeks after the session
A few things to know before your session:
Please come prepared for a hands-on, messy experience! We recommend removing rings, bracelets, and other jewellery before your session, as clay can get into settings and be difficult to clean. Long or acrylic nails can also make wheel throwing tricky, so please bear this in mind when booking. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty — clay has a way of going everywhere!
Before You Book - Please Read:
We're a small, independent pottery studio. We pour our hearts into every class and work hard to deliver beautiful results.
Lead times: Ceramic pieces take approximately 6-8 weeks to fire - these are estimates and often take longer. We cannot speed this up or provide daily updates.
Refund policy: We do not provide refunds for completed workshops or firing outcomes. High-temperature firing is unpredictable by nature.
What we ask: Please read and accept our full Terms & Conditions before booking. Respect our team's time and efforts.
Thank you!

  • 5/5 from Lewis Walton, attended Sep 2026: Excellent class booked for my mum's birthday. We both had a great time and found the teaching very good for beginners.
  • 5/5 from Bea Verastegui, attended Aug 2026: Had great fun, taught the basics well, would recommend
  • 5/5 from Joanne Hynd, attended Apr 2026: My friend and I really enjoyed my wheel throwing experience. We were complete beginners and Ben spent a lot of time showing us what to do. We finished up making some plates and bowls not the best! But to be honest we never thought we could make anything! I would highly recommend
  • 5/5 from Josh Shakespeare, attended Mar 2026: Booked for me and my partner, had a great time. Teacher was very helpful and will definitely be returning!
  • 5/5 from Colin Crook, attended Jan 2026: It was brilliant! The teachers Will and Phoebe were fantastic. We made some sculptures to start and then made some bowls on the wheels. It was the first time we had been and it was great fun so we will definitely be going back.
  • 5/5 from Adam Cannon, attended Jan 2026: We really enjoyed this activity the teachers were great and had a fantastic amount of patience for something that we were obviously not talented at!
  • 5/5 from Raminta, attended Nov 2025: I had such a lovely time at this pottery class! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the instructor was patient, encouraging, and really knowledgeable. It was a relaxing and fun experience, and I enjoyed learning new techniques. My pieces aren’t ready to take home yet, but I’m excited to see how they turn out once they’re glazed and fired. Overall, a wonderful class that I’d definitely recommend!
  • 5/5 from Barry Osment, attended Jun 2025: What a great gift experience. Will hosted my wife and I for the pottery throwing and sped through all we needed to know so we could get hands on with the clay as soon as possible. Will's personable and friendly nature helped us relax and just enjoy the experience. There was a perfect balance of assistance and giving us space to be absorbed in the moment. Thoroughly recommend. Can't wait to see our finished glazed 'creations' - can take a little while for the pottery to be dried and kiln fired - the nature of the material. FYI to use the potters wheel you have to sit quite low down (you work over the top of your clay to help get some push etc) but, for an old guy, my knees didn't complain! Thankyou Will. Excellent.
