Painting Class in a City Farm

Find this hidden gem in the heart of East London and get artsy!

3 hours Class size 1 to 6     label £59

When the hustle and bustle of London is getting you down, join this art class to get creative in a peaceful and encouraging environment.

You'll be guided by an experienced and friendly teacher, Georgie, on Stepney City Farm. This little slice of green paradise is the perfect place to open yourself up to new skills and enjoy a mindful break.

When you arrive into the space Georgie will greet you and offer you tea/coffee. She will then guide you through a short mindful art exercise or meditation in line with the month's theme, to get you feeling inspired. She will then set you up with a canvas and help you get started.

In this class, you can paint whatever you want! You could replicate famous work, paint your favourite place, or take inspiration from our farm of Georgie's paintings. You'll learn how to construct your very own masterpiece by building texture, colour mixing, mark-making, and most importantly, letting go into it! Your teacher will help you detach from your inner-perfectionist, enjoy the process and find flow. It's a perfect way to unwind and reconnect with your imaginative side.

If you've ever wanted to start painting but lacked the materials or motivation to get going, this art workshop is ideal. Georgie will give you as much or as little guidance as you need and want. It's also perfect for all occasions, from a birthday party, a hens do or just a fun day out in London - just let Georgie know your requirements.

This class includes a short break where you can buy lunch from our onsite cafe, The Allotment Kitchen, or the farmers market, right by the studio, so you can enjoy local produce meals made with care.

Georgie Mason is an intuitive abstract painter working in an assortment of media. She values the art-making process for its therapeutic benefits and as a process of self-exploration just as much as she values the final product.

Georgie teaches weekly workshops from her studio at Stepney City Farm in London: a wholesome and creative environment, physically close but atmospherically very far from the hustle and bustle of the city, with glass double doors looking out onto the farm, animals all around, and neighboured by a spoon-carver and a ceramicist.

Georgie’s workshops are very process-led, with the intention of connecting with the innate creativity that already exists within each of us. For centuries humans have instinctively created, but many people believe they’re no good so they don’t try. Georgie’s aim is to reinvent the purpose of painting as a means of reconnecting to ourselves. The classes are relaxed and Georgie offers guidance and structure but also encourages freedom of expression and risk-taking.

Since graduating with a degree in English Literature and History of Art at Nottingham University, Georgie has exhibited internationally including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Affordable Art Fairs and the Museum of Goa in India. Her work is held in public and private collections across the UK. Georgie has been a guest lecturer at Queen Mary University.

Georgie Mason Art Studio is COVID-19 aware This means that this teacher won't run this class if they've had flu symptoms in the last 14 days, and will adhere to relevant government restrictions (e.g. maximum number of guests).

The location is a small studio, based within the city farm. My son is autistic and I booked the class for him and his sister as a taster to see if he would enjoy and tolerate a structured class. Our teacher was extremely helpful and patient. My son produced two pieces of work which are displayed on his wall. Both of them enjoyed the class, and we also spent some time visiting the animals. There is also a great tea room within the farm. Enjoyed by all.
