During this one-day beginner-friendly art course, you will soak up inspiration as you're guided through the Victoria and Albert Museum, all whilst learning the fundamentals of drawing.

This unique one-off art class in London welcomes those completely new to art or people who would like to revisit the basic elements and skills of observational drawing.

Spend the day learning top techniques from your talented guide and teacher whilst creating eye-catching observational sketches from the galleries world-renowned collection of sculptures and casts.

Throughout this art class, you will be introduced to the ways in which to see and think like an artist. Don't worry if you don't consider yourself artistically blessed, this relaxed and supportive class is sure to build your confidence and also be a fun and enjoyable experience – no matter your abilities!

What you’ll learn:

  • The basic principles of drawing.
  • How to use your materials.
  • An appreciation of ‘the quality of line’ and how it can be used to create different stylistic outcomes.
​- How to observe tonal range, and create depth in your sketches by rendering light and shadows with a variety of mark-making.
  • How to notice and harness ‘negative space’ as an effective drawing technique.
  • Basic compositional ideas and techniques to help achieve proportion and scale.

By the end of the class, you will feel a great sense of achievement after creating a series of beautiful sketches and learning a whole range of great drawing techniques and skills. Head home with your sketches in tow, ready to continue your newfound love of drawing!

What you'll get
​All materials that you will need are provided - including a drawing board, pencils, paper, erasers, stools.
 
What to bring
  • You are welcome to bring your own supplies or sketchbook if you’d prefer, but please be advised that charcoal and wet materials (such as paint) are not permitted in the museum.
  • The gallery can sometimes be draughty, so please wrap up warm.
  • You will need to keep your personal belongings with you at all times, so it’s advised to avoid bringing large bags.
