Ideal for complete photography beginners, during this workshop you will learn the fundamentals and basics of photography whilst out and about with your teacher, allowing you to practise and experiment with newly learned techniques while photographing some of London’s most iconic locations.

Subjects covered:

  • ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
  • Shooting in aperture priority mode.
  • Shooting in manual when using a tripod.
  • Experimenting with panning in shutter speed priority mode.
  • Histogram and the importance of exposing to the right.
  • Tips and tricks for eye-catching compositions.
  • The importance of light and shooting at the best time of day.
  • Conveying stories in your photographs.
  • Focus modes and capturing sharp photos.
  • Metering.
  • Selecting the most appropriate equipment (although it is not about what equipment you have, it is how you use it!).

As well as learning the technical side of photography, you will also explore composition and the thought process behind creating (not just taking) breathtaking photos.

Typical itinerary (subject to change):
  • You will begin the day by meeting your teacher and group close to the London Eye. Your teacher will then give you a brief overview of the day before the group sets off to explore London with a camera in hand.
  • During the first half of the day, you will learn the basics of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, shooting modes and focusing all whilst exploring the stunning South Bank and London Eye area. Once you are comfortable with this, you will start to experiment with slow shutter speeds while photographing interesting subjects such as the Thames, Leake Street Graffiti Tunnels, buskers, markets and South Bank’s famous skate park.
  • After a short break to re-charge and fuel up, your teacher will explore with you the art of photographic storytelling, discussing tricks to create eye-catching compositions and how to make the best of whatever lighting situation you find yourself in.
  • As the day draws to an end, you will enjoy a sunset and blue hour/night shoot over-looking the Thames near Millennium Bridge – you're sure to go home with a selection of beautiful photographs.

Please note:
You will be given a specific meet-up point upon booking.
