Museum Drawing Workshop - Improvers

Brush up on your art skills at the beautiful V&A museum in London!

6 hours Class size 1 to 5     label £60

Expand your artistic horizons at this unique drawing class in London, specially designed for those with basic drawing skills or for those who have already taken the beginner's museum drawing workshop!

Held in the stunning Victoria and Albert Museum (the word's leading museum for art and design), you will spend the day sketching amazing statues and exhibits whilst being guided by a talented artist and teacher.

This full-day art course will focus on techniques to give your observational drawings real depth, proportion and definition. Don't worry if you're not quite confident in your skills just yet, this drawing class takes a relaxed and supportive approach. Using warm-up exercises as well as longer studies for more developed drawings, you will gradually build your confidence in your drawing abilities.

What this drawing course will cover:

  • How to develop and reinforce your perceptual skills of drawing.
  • How to improve your observation of line and tone and further your understanding of the artist’s way of seeing.
  • Work with a variety of mark-making and shading techniques, such as cross-hatching and contour shading – this will give your drawings dramatic depth and form.
  • Tips and techniques to achieve accurate proportions and scale, including sighting, measuring, negative space and how to render ‘foreshortening’ in your drawing.
  • Working on toned paper we’ll experiment with new materials.
  • A quick introduction into portraiture, creating a study of one of the many incredible busts in the museum.

By the end of the class, you will feel more confident in your drawing skills and ready to tackle more challenging art. Head home with your gorgeous sketches and the skills to make more.
