In this guided tasting, you’ll uncover how steaming unlocks the signature grassy, umami-rich profile of Japanese green teas, and how shading the tea bushes enhances both the flavours and the highly prized health benefits.
Throughout your journey, the bold and sometimes challenging flavours of shaded and steamed teas will be balanced with carefully paired sweet treats to create a harmonious and rounded sensory experience.
All teas are served in beautifully handcrafted teaware created exclusively for Kissako by Justine Jenner Pottery. You’ll also experience the use of 'kyusu' teapots, carefully chosen to highlight the nuances of each tea and brewing style.
You'll leave with a newfound love for Japan’s tea-making traditions and the know-how to elevate every brew.

FAQ

Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?
Where teas are offered with milk (latte style), a dairy-free alternative will be used. Accompanying treats are freshly prepared for each tasting. Please contact me at least 48 hours before your experience if you need any substitutions.
Is there step-free access?
The facility is located up stairs above Slake Spirits brewery, without a lift. Apologies if this is unsuitable.
Can I purchase tea and teaware featured in the tasting?
YES! Tea and teaware are available to purchase directly after your event. Due to the delicate nature of some items, my preference is to sell in-person.
