Dorayaki and Mochi are increasingly popular desserts in the UK. Learn how to make these delicious Japanese delicacies at this creative London baking class.

Taught by an experienced chef, you'll gain a range of new culinary skills and will learn the history and culture behind these two popular desserts. You will often find it is a small class in a spacious shop. More often gets private class if booking in weekdays.

Throughout your London cooking class, you'll learn how to:

  • Make the dessert pastry.
  • Make your fillings.
  • Wrap your desserts.
  • Decorate and serve what you've made.

If time permits, your teacher will show you how to make some different varieties desserts.

Learning new baking skills and immersing yourself in the history of these tasty desserts, this culinary journey to Japan will treat your mind and your taste buds.

By the end of this dessert class in London, you'll have created two delicious Japanese desserts to take home and enjoy – Dorayaki and Mochi, and you'll have the skills and know-how to re-create them at home later.

Special herbs Green Mochi
This is a special type of Mochi in China. The natural herbs gives the special green colour and beautiful smell. It is only available in spring and an unique food for Chinese festival in April.
We order a limited amount of herbs every year from China. Please book it quickly before the ingredients run out.

  • Egg is essential
  • Milk is essential
  • Butter also used.
  • Nuts and sesame seeds might be used depends the flavour you choose.
  • No gluten in Mochi. However it is in Dorayaki.

Suitable for

This class is great for individuals and couples as well as for a team building activity, birthday, hen do or stag do.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 10 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

This would also be a unique gift for her, gift for mum or anniversary gift.


Simon Wang is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and adheres to COVID-19 government guidelines. They won't run this class if they've had a continuous cough, a high temperature, or a loss of or change in their normal sense of taste or smell, in the last 14 days.

You can book up to 6 persons in one class. The shop is big enough to give comfort distances between each other. It is well ventilate as well.

No extra charge for private classes to make you comfortable.

We had two jabs and self-tests in weekly basis.

We ask all guests to wear masks unless drink or eat.

Washing facility is free to use all the time.

Free to reschedule if you and close contacts tests positive or showing some symptoms.

We are a wife-and-husband team running a small shop called Oriental Food in North London. Our little shop sells cooking ingredients from China, Japan and Korea – as well as other Asian countries!

As the shop is not big enough to be a one-stop shopping destination, we like to curate the food and ingredients we sell and focus on introducing only the ingredients we love to the local community.

As we both have a passion for cooking and sharing our love of food with others, we started to cook our own dishes to sell in our shop. If customers like the dish, we love showing them the ingredients that have been used from our shop!

As the dishes got increasingly popular, we started to sell freshly prepared Bentos and even started doing local delivery (find us on UberEats and Deliveroo).

More and more people came to us to ask how we cook our dishes and that's how our fun and friendly cooking classes and tasting experiences were born! Come along and let us share with you our authentic cooking techniques as well as modern culinary trends. That's right, you can make the perfect Chinese, Japanese and Korean food too!

Hanna and simon were very friendly and showed us how to make Doriaki and Mochi with home made jams fresh fruits and cream. Also red bean paste I'd highly recommend this class hopefully they will do more desert class and perhaps some main dishes or Noodle dishes. What fun. Thank you very much.

Went as a valentines day thing, Simon and Hannah were great, fun, very friendly helpful. A really nice couple, all clean and highly recomend

Lessons were easy and lots of tips and opportunities to practice in their shop.

Learned to make nice yummy foods. to take home. It was only us two which helped for attention. Looking forward to going again.

Go by public transport, parking not good in the area but thats no fault of theirs, its near tube stations and lots of busses
But do note when there are two things to make you only get to do one each rather than learn one then learn the other but there was some crossover goes at the later stages of both.

Looking forward to going back and learning more yummy food

Making dorayaki and mochi was surprisingly easy and enjoyable. The finished products were looked and tasted superb! Thank you Hannah for teaching me! Your instructions were easy to follow, and your choice of ingredients was excellent! Now that I know how to make mochi at home, I no longer have to buy prepackaged mochi from a shop!

Wow I had such an amazing time. Simon and Hanna were brilliant, very welcoming and I felt completely relaxed. Both gave me great tips - I made three dishes: Red Bean Dorayaki, Red Bean Mochi and Oreo Cream Mochi. I got given lots of advice on how these fillings could be incorporated into other dishes and also how I could mix 'n' match the desserts in my future cooking to follow the current trends. I had so much fun and will definitely be returning for future classes! Highly recommend.
