In this focused 2-day workshop, you will learn how to design and construct your own wheel-thrown teapot from start to finish. Teapots are one of the most rewarding and technically challenging forms in ceramics, bringing together multiple thrown elements that must fit and function beautifully together.
Day 1 will focus on throwing all of the component parts that make up a teapot. You’ll learn how to throw the body, lid, spout, and handle elements while considering proportion, balance, and functionality. Guidance will be given on how to design each part so that they work together as a cohesive whole. Chiara will also discuss common pitfalls in teapot making and how to avoid them.
On Day 2, when the pieces have reached the leather-hard stage, you will trim the body and lid and begin assembling the teapot. You will learn how to properly attach and position the spout and handle, refine the lid fit, and make adjustments to ensure the pot pours well. Particular attention will be given to creating clean-pouring spouts that avoid drips and well-fitting lids that sit securely and comfortably.
By the end of the workshop, you will have completed a fully assembled teapot and gained practical techniques you can apply to future functional pottery.

New Brewery Arts is Cirencester’s creative heart — a vibrant cultural charity housed in the historic buildings of the former Cirencester Brewery.
After the brewery’s closure in 1937, the site fell into disuse and was nearly lost to demolition. Thanks to a visionary local group, two of the remaining buildings were restored and transformed into craft workshops, opening as Cirencester Workshops in 1978.
Its mission is to champion craft — making it, learning it, and supporting the people who do it. Its courses, workshops, makers’ studios, 100% UK-made craft shop, and café all contribute to a vibrant creative hub at the heart of Cirencester.
