Hawaiian Style Holiday Shirt Workshop

Stitch a simple Summer shirt.

6 hours Class size 6 to 10 guests       £55 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Bring along all your old textiles to the Stitch and Make Studio - it could be curtains, tablecloths, or tea towels - we'll show you how to transform them into the best eco-holiday shirt. Or you could just bring some cotton fabric.
This is a good pattern for the novice stitcher who wants to improve their skills and increase their sewing confidence. Bring along all the fabric you've collected, and we'll help you build a cohesive look. Don't worry, you can also make this shirt in standard cotton or linen, but nothing too silky or slippery, not satin's please. We'll supply patterns in Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large.
You will be shown how the pattern works and how to lay it out properly. You'll also be given work route for additional support. Together we'll work through the steps with lots of breaks for little demos. You'll learn how to set in sleeves to fit nicely and how to use interfacing for stabilising. How to trim a collar for a better fit and all those little hints and tips which elevate a garment to a professional finish. Finally, you'll be able to add poppers or buttons and shown how to buttonhole and space.
We will have a selection of buttons and trims for sale on the day, all at cheaper than shop prices if you can't find anything you like. We'll also have a small selection of suitable cottons you can purchase, so don't worry if you leave your fabric at home or run out of time to buy anything.
We have a steady supply of refreshments on hand throughout the day, and there'll be a break for lunch.
PLEASE NOTE - Fabric is much better behaved and easier to use if it is washed and laundered beforehand. Please don't waste money on buying fancy expensive fabric if you are not an experienced sewer. Build up your skill-set slowly with practise. A good place to buy inexpensive cotton is on Fabricland, which is a fabric shop based in the UK, or if you prefer vintage, Vinted or eBay are good for curtains and tablecloths.

The Stitch and Make studio sits in the heart of Northampton boot and shoe quarter. It is on the top floor of this remarkable Victorian building that youll find Abi's studio.
In a freelance career spanning 4 decades Abi has traveled the world as a costume supervisor, worked back stage with Rod Stewart, Pink, The Stereophonics and Smashing Pumpkins to name just a few as well as designing and making costumes for production companies.
At home in her studio she designs, pattern cuts and makes a range of one off pieces from old and repurposed fabrics. Often featuring surface design and hand embroidery these are sold at customer facing textile fairs such as Selvedge, Compton Verney and Sunnybank Mills.
