For most of my life, I have studied in Montessori schools, which have provided an alternative learning environment that focuses on the child and the development of the mind, soul, and body of an individual. This has informed my life and artistic practice as I am an intuitive and emotionally aware person. I have varied interests and passions, including the performing arts, ceramics, sculpture, origami, collaging, painting and a desire to have an impact on the world around me.
I have been potting for over 7 years. My background and skills lie in all types of ceramics but I am mainly interested in handbuilt claywork. I enjoy making sculptures that are situated in natural environments and incorporating clay in performance.
I work with found objects and materials. I sculpt with salt, ash and clay. I play with mess and immerse my body in substances like water, flour, paint and mud.
I have an interest in curating spaces, rituals, and interventions around grief, healing, and liberation. I make site-specific and instruction-based performance. I have an interest in iteration, duration and elongating time.
As someone who grew up in an intergenerational environment, I am constantly learning from being in a community with children. Over the last four years, I have run a socially engaged theatre summer camp with an international group of young people (ages 7-14) in the Washington D.C area. I believe it is important for young people to have a voice when it comes to topics that affect them. This camp empowers the students to choose issues that matter to them and develop a show as a group. Last summer, we developed a show called Adventures of Versa, around the impact of alienation and bodily autonomy including themes of transphobia and abortion. I have an interest in facilitating a space where children can discuss difficult topics and decide for themselves what they believe in. This experience has fully informed my methodology as an artist and leader.
