What you'll do

If you're keen to learn how to paint and want the best possible start, this painting class in London is for you! You'll be led step by step through a painting, learning techniques along the way at this relaxed art experience.

Guided by an amazing artist, Abigail, you will go through a painting step by step. Although there will be plenty of instruction, you are more than welcome to go off-piste and add your own unique elements!

You will be using acrylic paints on canvas with occasional use of mixed media just as collage. Don't worry if you've never tried these painting techniques before! No experience is needed and this art class is perfect for newbies who just want to get creative.

When you're on the hunt for things to do in London with your alone or with your pals, this workshop is sure to tick all the boxes. It's super easy to plan as all the art supplies are provided and drinks are available to buy at the venue.

To ensure an uninterrupted and fun workshop for all participants, we kindly request that attendees arrive on time, as late arrivals exceeding a 10-minute delay will be turned away to avoid disruption to the ongoing class and inconvenience to others.

Art Play London was founded by Silva Castellani in 2018, starting in galleries such as Phillips, and pop up venues around London.

Art Play is now a new art studio which opened in East London in February 2022, where children and adults of all ages are free to release their imaginations and inner creativity.

Art Play has a strong focus and the environment and aims to educate children and adults on their environmental impact through art, using a variety of sustainable mediums and materials.

Art Play is part of the worldwide Precious Plastic community which means it will be a plastic collection point for people to drop off their HDPE plastic which would otherwise end up in landfills or the ocean. The plastic is then shredding and melted and turned into useful objects and pieces of art, such as plant pots and coasters.

The concept was great however there is a lot of noise and so many people trying to follow one guide and do one painting. Some people who were there did sip and paint so were drinking however I was expecting a calmer environment in smaller groups as it was a guided and really difficult to hear the guide.

The atmosphere was great! Plenty of paint and brushes to use. We had a fantastic time. We did the guided painting class but decided to paint our own ideas. It would have been useful to know beforehand what the class painting would be, as we did not want to paint Frankenstein (Halloween theme). If I knew beforehand, I would have booked for the cheaper, unguided class. I ended up using a you tube video to paint a scenic picture which I could hang in the house. My daughter did her own sunset themed painting we also now hung up at home.

We had a fantastic team social here yesterday evening! Abbie, our host and teacher, was so knowledgeable, patient and helpful. We were all pleased with our final results and had a great time! The venue is really lovely and chilled, with everything you need provided. We would be keen to return for a future social!

We booked onto the Guided Painting Class and our teacher (Apologies I think her name is Ira or Isla) was amazing! She guided us through each stage on painting lemons and it was effortless, easy and simple instructions, leaving us feeling happy with our masterpieces!
It was in a nice space with other painters around us, we mingled a couple other people booked onto the session and it was such a relaxed vibe. The teacher was also super cool. I highly recommend to go, I would come back again!

I went to a Guided Painting class led by Aija. I went by myself but it was a small class size (just 4 of us) and everyone was really friendly and encouraging towards each other. I don’t think I produced a particular great piece of art but it didn’t matter as I felt so inspired afterwards and will definitely be back for another session! Aija gave us tips and painted along with us but, at the same time, allowed us the freedom to do our own thing. She was very patient and encouraging. The venue has a lovely and lively atmosphere and I would highly recommend to anyone who, like me, hasn’t done any art in a while!

Loved this class and will be going back. The teacher was so lovely and detailed each step really well so everyone was able to create a great piece even with limited/no experience. The studio had a great atmosphere and it was really relaxed. Though it was a guided painting class we were encouraged to add our own personal touches if we wished and at the start we had a choice of which painting the group would like to follow. At the end we were also allowed to go over time to finish up and if you don’t want to walk around London with your painting you can leave it at the studio and pick it up later. So reasonably priced for such a great time. Highly recommend.

Great acrylic painting class! Abi - our teacher- was super friendly and a great tutor explaining everything from colour mixing to using different paintbrush techniques. Left with paintings we were proud of. Great venue in Spitalfields. Definitely recommend the class.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my booking the morning of, due to illness. This meant I didn't qualify for a refund, and I wasn't even offered a refund for the bags I'd prepurchased.

I was really disappointed with the customer service received; very short, one sentence replies.

I'd perhaps hoped for something like "oh I'm sorry to hear that, unfortunately we can't refund, but we're happy to offer a discount on another booking, and I'll arrange for a refund on the bags." It all left a pretty bitter taste, and I wouldn't book again because of the poor customer experience received.

An expensive illness for me it turns out! They have said they'll refund the bags now (which is like £3, but still, I paid for bags and don't have bags) so hopefully that will arrive soon.

I wasn't going to leave a review, but an email has prompted me twice, so I thought I'd leave my honest experience. It isn't their fault I didn't paint, but I wouldn't book again, which is a shame.
