What you'll do

Master simple sketching techniques and learn how to capture a beautiful flower in realistic detail. In this workshop, there will also be plenty of drawing tips shared, so you’ll soon be all set to sketch a whole bouquet of different flowers.

This sketching workshop is designed for beginners, with an introduction to the pencils you’ll need and how to achieve different effects with the pencil grades available. You’ll be drawing from a photo reference during the workshop, though many of the techniques apply to sketches from real life so that you can transfer your new skills.

The Hobbycraft Artisan will guide you through each step of the project, answering any questions and sharing lots of advice. From practicing pencil marks to blending and shading, this workshop will take you through the sketching process and provide you with creative inspiration.

You’ll come away with a beautiful flower sketch, as well as all the skills you’ll need to enhance your future drawing work. Be sure to put it on display once it’s complete!

Holly was really personable and the time just flew. As someone who has never drawn before she left with me with lots of tips and techniques. When I first started the project I was disheartened that it looked rather rubbish, but as we progressed through the different stages it started taking shape. There is a lot to fit into the session but Louise explains well. It is quite fast paced so perhaps be prepared to finish your sketch after the workshop. The pack arrived in good time in spite of the easter break.

I have just finished this class with Louise and I really enjoyed it. The hour and a half just flew past. Louise chatted and gave tips and ideas all through the class and it was very enjoyable, easy to follow, and relaxed. It was good to learn different techniques for shading and how to use different tools and pencils from the kit. It was lovely to see the other class participants and I was very pleased to have produced a reasonable drawing at the end. I hope that Louise does another drawing workshop.

A lovely drawing class. This was a well planned lesson on how to sketch a flower and as a complete beginner I was amazed at how I was able to produce something that looked like a flower! The lesson gently took you through techniques that you could apply throughout the session. The instructor was very clear and confidence building. A really good session.

Excellent tutor friendly welcoming and helpful with the skills and knowledge that you need as a beginner. Its slightly difficult as the picture is a detailed photo and for a total beginner it might be helpful to have some kind of written guide to reference in the future re pencils and equipment plus an easier to see guide of the drawing maybe worth considering too. Hopefully what I have managed to do will be able to be finished In the coming weeks. Thanks again for a great evening.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sketching session. Haven’t drawn much previously and thought I wasn’t doing very well until I held the drawing at arms length and was quite pleased with the end result.
