Festive Cyanotype Printing Workshop

Do something a bit different with your decorating with this festive cyanotype workshop in Abbots Leigh

2.5 hours Location Pill Class size 1 to 8 (public classes), 1 to 15   £45

Give your Christmas cards and decorations a beautifully different look this year in this festive cyanotype printmaking workshop at Brackenwood Garden Centre in Abbotts Leigh. Using sunlight-sensitive solution and real botanical cuttings, you'll create a set of striking blue-toned cards and a hanging ornament that's completely your own.
The session blends clear demonstrations with plenty of hands-on practice, so you'll quickly get the hang of this printing process. You'll work with watercolour paper, light-sensitive cyanotype solution and pressed botanicals to compose your designs, then watch as your prints develop into rich, Prussian-blue silhouettes. To finish, you can add delicate gold or silver detailing for a touch of festive sparkle.
No printmaking experience is needed – this workshop is made for complete beginners, with friendly guidance every step of the way.
You'll head home with a handful of one-of-a-kind cards ready to send to the people you love, plus a shimmering botanical ornament to hang on the tree – handmade keepsakes that carry a little sunshine into the depths of winter.
The Garden Tea Room serves hot drinks and delicious homemade food, freshly baked cakes and scones. It'll be open before the workshop (from 10am to 3.30pm with lunch served between 12pm and 2pm. Kitchen closes for hot food at 2.00pm). To ensure a table please book in advance.

Hi, I’m Catherine, the maker behind Bluebelle Arts. After many years of living overseas and more than a decade soaking up the California sun, I returned home to Bristol. I’ve been experimenting with cyanotype since 2020, and I’m endlessly fascinated by how sunlight, plants, and a little chemistry turn into deep blue botanical prints. My teaching background shapes how I run my workshops: relaxed, friendly, and hands-on, with plenty of guidance whether you’re a complete beginner or already creative. I run workshops and take part in local art trails, sharing my love of all things blue. Come along, bring your curiosity, and leave with prints you’ve made yourself.
