What you'll do
Get to know where you live like never before and turn it into a creative keepsake full of visual art, writing and crafts with this online art course.
You will explore a few different DIY crafts like drawing, writing, photography, bookbinding and more as you explore your city or town with a few weekly activities. Your teachers will always be on hands to demonstrate and advise.
Week by week, you will cover a new creative technique and learn how to apply them to the investigation of your city. This course runs over five live online classes with your friendly teachers, Julie and Cass. You will also complete DIY projects in between sessions.
You're welcome to join in from any city, and this can be an indoor activity for those with mobility issues. We will advise you on some workarounds like using Google Street View.
You'll then get a creative assignment each week that will have you get to know where you live, take in the sights, and try a creative medium. We encourage our students to delve into whatever direction interests them most— whether that's written reflections, sketches, photographs, maps, or a unique combination. It can be whatever you want it to be.
This art class online is a fun thing to do at home that will bring you closer to your community and surrounding area. Class sizes are small, and we create a Facebook group where people can share their creations as they go.
Knowledge required
No previous experience is necessary! Just a willingness to get creative and try new things.
What to bring
- We don’t expect that the basic materials required for this course will come to more than £50 (but if you would like to expand your art supplies and invest in more expensive brands, there is always the option to spend more).
- You will receive a final kit list of things to bring before the class begins. You may already have many of these materials to hand.
