What you'll do
Jump on this DIY craft craze and learn to crochet. Combine basic stitches in complex ways to create texture and form while making a cushion cover.
This seven-part online course is aimed at those with a bit of experience with the crochet hooks, but you don't need to be a pro to have fun and learn something new! Each week we will meet in a virtual class to cover some crochet techniques and work on a section of the cushion cover.
Before each online class, the next section of the pattern will be emailed to you. The teacher will then guide you through a step-by-step demonstration.
Your friendly teacher will support you and answer all crochet-related questions. You will learn the tips and tricks of counting foundation chains, creating patterns with colours and how to stitch clusters, bobbles, picots and more.
You will then keep working on your crochet project in your own time to complete the section. This will help you practise and give you some engaging things to do at home that keep your hands and mind active.
You have the option of getting a craft kit with us that includes enough yarn to make your cushion in a few different colourways. If you have your own yarn, you're welcome to purchase only the class.
Once your yarn-filled virtual experience is over, you'll have a gorgeous cushion cover and all the skills you need to keep making more crochet items!
Knowledge required
You should know how to crochet and how to do a few basic stitches (slip, double crochet, half treble, treble and chain.) This is a great chance to develop your skills. It is not essential that you know how to read a pattern.
What you'll get in your craft kit
Pack of yarn in different colours. Please tell us your choice at the checkout.- Rose garden (pinks and green)
- Spring brights (purple, pinks and yellows)
- Autumn haze (teal, oranges and browns)
- Shades of grey (white, black and grey)
What you'll need
- Two crochet hooks (For loose crocheters, we recommend 3.5mm and 4mm hooks. For middle tension crocheters, we recommend 4mm and 4.5mm hooks. For tight crocheters, we recommend 4.5mm and 5mm hooks)
- If you would like to use your own yarn, please also bring five 100g balls of double knitting yarn. We recommend something non-fluffy and friendly that is not prone to splitting. Stylecraft Special 100% acrylic yarn is a good choice.
- Buttons to fasten your cushion together. Size, colour and number are completely up to you, but we can give you advice.
