The talented chef running this delicious virtual experience is Reiko Hashimoto. She will help you build confidence while eating nutritious food packed with flavour. Learn more about Japanese cuisine and create a tasty dish together.
During this hands-on indoor activity, you will learn how to cook chicken or tofu katsu curry with a side of short-grain rice, pickled radish and cucumber. This iconic Japanese dish has a decadent umami sauce and is brimming with colourful pickled vegetables.
Katsu is the method used to coat food in breadcrumbs that fry up to be beautifully golden and incredibly crispy. In this class, we will use panko which gives authentic flavour and a light coating perfect for the chicken or tofu.
You will receive your cooking kit with all ingredients included. All you need are a few basic pieces of kitchen equipment then you can jump into the online cooking class and start making a tasty dinner. Beginners and regular home chefs alike are welcome to join in on the fun and learn something new.

I grew up in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. The food we ate at home was fresh and elegant, taking advantage of the delicious seasonal produce that grows on the surrounding mountains. Delicate ingredients like mushrooms and tofu were favourites of mine and still feature in many of my recipes today. I'm passionate about teaching Japanese cooking through my cookery school, books and now The Cookaway. I believe that the Japanese diet is one of the healthiest in the world, and offers us all a sustainable life-long way of eating well.
The joy of Japanese cooking is that when you master the basics, a whole new world opens up to you. My menus are easy to cook and are simple, nutritious and authentic. They have beautiful, subtle flavours and textures that may be unfamiliar but will quickly become favourites. My aim is to build your confidence and help you eat better.
