What you'll do
Have you ever wanted to get into calligraphy? Looking for some creative indoor activities? Then join this relaxing and comprehensive course as you learn how to use a pointed nib.
Over each weekly calligraphy class, you will learn how to control your nib and ink flow before progressing to forming elegant letter art and styling your calligraphy by altering letter angle and width. You will also learn to blend with coloured and metallic ink paints, find the perfect pointed nib for you, work on different surfaces, and move on to flourishes.
Each virtual class will include demonstrations from your teacher, which you can study and copy to learn how to write in calligraphy. Discover ways for adding personality to your work by bouncing letters, flourishing, and creating simple layouts.
Our drills, exercises, challenges, and projects give plenty of opportunities to practice and experiment with every technique. There is plenty of one-on-one feedback as well as Q&A sessions each week, so your ability will increase as we encourage you to assess your own work and understand how to improve and develop your calligraphy far beyond this course.
By the end of this online course, you will leave with a real understanding of the foundations of creative lettering. Turn these skills into handmade greetings cards, unique gifts and stunning wall art.

- Week 1: Capital letters - Ink and gold mica.
- Week 2: Guidelines and lowercase letters - Blending coloured inks.
- Week 3: Connections, exit, and entry strokes - Working onto black.
- Week 4: Bounce - Letter by letter - Elastic letters
- Week 5: Copperplate with an oblique pen holder and a fine nib - The difference between the formal and modern styles.
- Week 6: Angles, letter families.
- Week 7: Flourishing fluency - Blending Finetec.
- Week 8: Mini capitals and mixing styles - Gift tags and cards - Design hierarchy.
- Week 9: Balancing your work using flourishes - Designing greeting cards.
- Week 10: Typographic terms and problem-solving - Centring and balancing layouts.
Every session of this course will be recorded, so if you miss a week you will be able to watch the recording to catch up!
