A Community in Print: Cyanotype Workshop

Explore, print, connect - a community cyanotype day at Ashton Court.

3 hours Location Long Ashton Class size 1 to 15 (public classes), 1 to 20   £25
Spend a few unhurried hours at Ashton Court Estate, foraging botanicals from the grounds and turning them into your very own cyanotype prints. Powered by the sun (or a UV light box when the clouds roll in), it's a simple, instantly rewarding printmaking process that's perfect for first-timers.
You'll begin with a gentle walk through the estate, gathering leaves and flowers that catch your eye. Then you'll settle in to learn the cyanotype process from start to finish – coating your paper, arranging your finds and exposing your prints to reveal crisp botanical silhouettes in deep, dreamy blue.
It's a slow, screen-free and sensory session, ideal if you're looking to get outdoors, switch off and try something new in good company. No experience is needed, just a little curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Everything's included:
  • All cyanotype materials, including treated paper, trays and extra botanicals if needed
  • A guided walk around the estate grounds
  • Step-by-step tuition throughout
You'll leave with several one-of-a-kind prints that capture the estate in leaf and petal – a lasting little piece of Ashton Court to frame, gift or keep close.
Refreshments will be available from the Courtyard Cafe which is open 9.30am to 4.40pm - a good option for lunch after the session.

Hi, I’m Catherine, the maker behind Bluebelle Arts. After many years of living overseas and more than a decade soaking up the California sun, I returned home to Bristol. I’ve been experimenting with cyanotype since 2020, and I’m endlessly fascinated by how sunlight, plants, and a little chemistry turn into deep blue botanical prints. My teaching background shapes how I run my workshops: relaxed, friendly, and hands-on, with plenty of guidance whether you’re a complete beginner or already creative. I run workshops and take part in local art trails, sharing my love of all things blue. Come along, bring your curiosity, and leave with prints you’ve made yourself.
