5 Week Throwing Class

Learn the basics and develop your skills in this 5-week throwing class.

5 x 2 hours Location Saltford Class size 1 to 3 guests   £200
In this five-week throwing class, you will learn how to centre the clay, pull the wall and shape your piece on the potter’s wheel. This beginner-friendly workshop will guide you through how to throw in a calm and supportive setting, helping you learn the essential skills while creating pots and pieces to take home.
You do not need any previous experience. The class is designed to help you feel comfortable with the clay and the wheel, with plenty of guidance as you build your confidence. Working in small groups in my riverside studio creates a relaxed experience, so you can enjoy this creative activity at your own pace.
The class will run over five weeks:
  • Weeks 1–2: Learn the basics of throwing, including how to centre the clay, pull the wall and begin shaping your piece.
  • Week 3: Throw the pieces you will keep – with up to four pieces to develop.
  • Week 4: Learn how to trim your pots on the wheel to define your work and refine the shape.
  • Week 5: Decorate your pieces with glazes, adding your own personal finish.
You will be working with clay, the potter’s wheel and coloured glazes, learning through demonstration and hands-on practice. Throwing can feel challenging at first, but you will be supported throughout, and you may find the process becomes both calming and rewarding as you begin to understand how the clay responds to your hands.
By the end of the five weeks, you will have developed a foundation in throwing and created your own individual pieces. The experience is an opportunity to slow down, work creatively and transform a simple lump of clay into pots that reflect your ideas and effort – pieces you can take home and feel proud of.
