What you'll do
This course will run from Tuesday 24th September to Tuesday 22nd October.
If you've ever admired the elegance of Copperplate calligraphy and dreamed of creating symmetrical, perfectly formed lettering, now's your chance to learn! Kirsten has simplified the techniques and principles of this formal, classic style into easy-to-follow steps. Don't worry if you've been hesitant to try before—we'll make it enjoyable!
Whether you're starting from scratch or aiming to refine your skills, join us for five engaging online classes where we'll guide you from basic strokes to crafting stunning calligraphic quotes, complete with captivating flourishes and exquisite envelopes.
Your expert teacher will take you through everything you need to know, including:
- Why and when to use different line guides.
- Getting to grips with forming words.
- Refining your spacing and rule up and how to centre your work.
- Explore simple layouts and go through the process of composition, from the first draft to the final piece.
- What to do when ascenders and descenders bump into each other.
- A whole session devoted to practising flourishing so that you can feel confident about where and how to add a swirl and a swash.
- Perfecting the art of envelope addressing.
We'll provide all our top tips and simple home practice methods to enhance muscle memory, building upon the skills acquired in each lesson to elevate your calligraphy. In addition to the virtual sessions, you'll receive a comprehensive calligraphy kit stocked with essential supplies to aid your progress.
Don't worry if you miss a session for any reason—all classes will be recorded, allowing you to catch up at your convenience by watching the recordings!

What you'll get in your craft kit
An oblique/straight pen holder (depending on whether you are left or right-handed), different Copperplate nibs to try, a paintbrush, black ink, white gouache, an A4 Rhodia dot pad, a gold finetec so that you can work onto dark cards with stunning metallics and of course all the worksheets, templates, selection of cards, envelopes and gift tags that you need for the 5 weeks, plus a little extra if you'd like to do the 'homework' exercises.NO KIT OPTION
You will only receive the worksheets that will be posted out to you prior to the event.
If you have selected the no kit option please feel free to use a selection of your own favourite nibs.
What you'll need
In addition, you will need: ruler, rubber, and though not essential, we would recommend having a light pad which is available to purchase from our shop. Please also have a jar of water and a napkin/cloth incase of any spillages.
