In this ceramics class, you will hand sculpt a unique house number plaque in stoneware clay, complete with detailed sprig molds and colourful slip designs. Learn an array of ceramics techniques and display your finished house number proudly at your front door. You will be given plenty of demonstrations and guidance throughout this detailed workshop, making it a great learning experience for someone who has already worked in clay at least once before.

Start by making a very loose sketch of your door number design, deciding on shape, colour, texture and border. No real drawing skills required, just your imagination. Your tutor will provide plenty of inspiration and examples to get the creative juices flowing.

Working as a group we will learn to roll, shape and texture an even slab of clay, to create the base of your plaque.

Together, we will learn the traditional sprig molding technique. Your tutor will give a demonstration before guiding you through the process of pressing clay into plaster molds, shaping into house numbers and attaching to your base.

Enjoy the freedom of adding detail to your design in any way you like. You will have a range of pottery tools, coloured slips and stamps available for you to use, and your tutor will provide the guidance you need for your vision to come to life. You could paint a decorative background, bold colours, add sculpted flower heads or a textured border.

Your tutor will supervise the drying, glazing and firing of your creation. After which, you can proudly display your number plaque at your door.

A fascination with everyday objects and ornate furniture is what inspires Stacey's artistic practice. Making mixed media sculpture and relief prints from her garden studio, Stacey uses clay is one of her main materials.

'I love how responsive clay is in its raw state, and the technical challenges that come with introducing it to other materials and processes.'

Along side Stacey's art practice, she runs friendly and relaxed ceramics classes in her garden studio.

In one of Stacey's classes you will learn the basics of working with clay, progressing step by step with your group, and completing your project on the day. You'll get plenty of demonstrations and guidance throughout the class with the freedom to add your own creative spin on your project. So if you are completely new to ceramics, or already have some experience, Stacey's classes are made for you.

Stacey will take care of all drying and firing of work, which will be ready to collect (or post if cost is covered) in 2-3 weeks.

'The pleasure of working with clay is something everyone should experience.'
