Ashley Jess Knight

Ashley is an award winning upcycler, weaver and textile designer based in South East London whose work focuses on colour, texture, joy and sustainability!

Ashley started her textile business in 2021 after winning the Cockpit Arts x Clothworkers award which allowed her to establish her London studio where she creates handwoven samples and designs alongside her namesake fashion brand where she creates upcycled jackets and accessories using her own handwoven fabrics woven from discarded materials such as wedding dresses, denim and deadstock materials.

Ashleys strong passion in keeping both the materials and memory from going into landfill has led her to running upcycling workshops allowing participants to create beautiful upcycled artworks, learn more about upcycling and sustainable fashion and learn useful upcycling skills that can be used after the workshop.

Ashley has run workshops and demos for organisations such as; The British Textile Biennial, New Designers, London Borough of Culture, Cockpit Arts, Arts for Dementia and Art fund-funded projects.

Ashley's workshops focus on upcycling skills focusing on the embroidery technique of couching, allowing participants to upcycle weaving waste into textured and 3D art pieces which can be simple technical swatches or more complex themed art pieces.
